I think that everyone by now
must be familiar with the concept of a glowing mouse pad. They take on
various designs from a completely glowing base, to the edges glowing, to
bubble styled acrylic glass... you get the idea. But more often than not a
simple idea is the best one, and while the Flexiglow FX Game Pad was a good
pad with an innovative 7 colors in one, sometimes you just want one colour.
If you're a gamer, there will be other things you will consider when it
comes to a mousing surface too. Features such as a low height to reduce
wrist strain, plenty of room from the mouse pad, and of course the surface
has to be just right
When we first opened the package the mouse pad was HUGE! First
impression: It had to be perfect for gaming. When I first plugged it
in and seen the lights I knew it would be a good pad. Then we used it for
the first time. You could have sworn the mouse was moving itself
because the action was so smooth.
This pad is made of acrylic plastic with the mouse pad surface glued on top
of it. The mouse surface is a smooth black plastic with the texture of a
really high grit sandpaper. The surface works very well with an optical
mouse and is supposed to be great for ball mice as well. The base of the
mouse pad is a clear acrylic that's thick and very stiff, excellent for use
anywhere. The outer regions of the base have a tribal design etched into it,
this is used to catch the light of the LEDs and give the pad some
bling-bling.
The pad can be used as a regular hardcore gaming surface or can be plugged
into a spare USB port and get transformed into a glowing hardcore gaming
surface. The light source for the mouse pad is on the upper bottom and is
contained in a "lighting module". The pad comes in three different colours,
blue, red and green. The glowing effect is done using 4 LEDs that point to
each corner of the pad and do a great job of lighting up the entire pad
base. Using the dimmer switch will allow you to adjust the brightness or
completely turn the lights off.
Conclusions
This pad will be an excellent addition to the
rest of your glowing devices and will be another reason not to turn on the
lights in your room anymore. The pad is designed for the hardcore gamer,
it's big and fast, but will appeal to the modder who likes LEDs as well. I
personally thought it was too sensitive for me but I know a lot of
people who like it that way.
Pros
- It glows blue, red or green
- Huge pad surface
- Pad doesn't slide around on desk
Cons
- Has a USB cable
- May be too sensitive for some
